Texas Hold'em
is the most popular version of poker, combining simple rules with deep strategy.
It is a "community card" game where players aim to make the best five-card hand using their own private cards and shared cards on the table.
Win the pot (the chips bet during a hand) by either having the best five-card poker hand at the end
or by forcing all other players to fold (quit) before the showdown.
1. The Setup & Blinds
Before any cards are dealt, the two players to the left of the "Dealer Button"
must place forced bets called the Small Blind and the Big Blind. This ensures there is always money in the pot.
Each player is dealt two private cards face down, known as "hole cards."
A round of betting follows, starting with the player to the left of the Big Blind.
Three community cards are dealt face up in the center of the table.
These cards are shared by everyone. A second round of betting occurs.
A fourth community card is dealt face up.
This is followed by a third round of betting.
The fifth and final community card is dealt face up.
One final round of betting takes place.
If more than one player remains after the final bet, they reveal their cards.
Players use any combination of their two hole cards and the five community cards
to make the best possible five-card hand. The player with the highest-ranking hand wins the pot.
During any betting round, you have these choices:
Check: Pass the action to the next player without betting (only possible if no one else has bet yet).
Bet/Raise: Increase the cost for others to stay in the hand.
Call: Match the current bet to stay in the hand.
Fold: Give up your cards and any chips already put in the pot.
